Speakout: Sept. 27, 2009

Ambulance
Last night I did not turn off the scanner as usual, so I heard the local ambulance get called out to assist a man with chest pain. I knew that there are EMTs available at all times, and they have a good response time. A few minutes later, the dispatcher called another ambulance from 25 miles away to assist due to mechanical problems, which happens. There are three other ambulances within 5 to 10 miles from the scene. There is something wrong with this picture.

Teens
On 9/15 on my way to Plattsburgh at 7:45 a.m., just past Cody's store a older black Mustang and a little red car made two high-speed and very dangerous moves, passing a line of cars. Very apparent these were young drivers. On the Jersey Swamp Road, another teenager passed me on a solid yellow at a high rate of speed. I travel 58 to 60 mph. Parents, you should be concerned; you do not want that phone call or that knock at the door.

Purse
To the most honest party who had turned in my purse at Stewart's in Keene on Sept. 3. Thank you so very much! Such a relief to see it there, contents and all.

Money
I'm writing regarding the article titled ATM card. It stated "people who don't work receive $200." I assume you're talking about the money to purchase school clothes. Not everyone who received it is unemployed. I received this money because I work but earn very little and care for my disabled husband (who also lost his COL raise, which we count on). But I am so grateful that my child/other children can feel good about themselves when attending school. You wouldn't complain had you received this money and someone else lost out. I didn't see an article when the stimulus was mailed to you.

Sewer
I was at the Cumberland Head sewer meeting and listened to the opposition. If some of the members of the town board or their associates resent the comments made, they should move out here and help us absorb these prices. They don't live here, so why should they care about our financial situations?

Grant

What is with Keeseville's housing grant? They say they are going to go around and fix up people's rundown houses. What about the people that take the time and spend their own hard-earned money to maintain and improve their own house? Does this mean that I can just let my house fall apart and have someone else pay to fix it up? What happens when they sell the house? Are they going to fix up the junk yards? Maybe the village should focus more on all the youths running around unsupervised trashing the village.

Red
Right on red. This means to come to a complete stop, ensure no one is approaching, then turn and get up to speed. If not done properly, this leads to near collisions and traffic backups. Exiting near UPS at the border going north is a danger zone, folks, be smart.

Complaints
Complaints, complaints, and most of them are silly. That is 90 percent of what I have to laugh at every time I read Speakout. Would it be a blessing and a benefit to many to just for a few days see readers submit articles that are the opposite of negative. Let's hear from good citizens of the North Country on things they are proud of. Let's remember that we should not throw stones if we live in glass houses. Also that we should let the good of our area shine for people to see and read about.

Rent
Let's see how I can understand a two-bedroom for $1,300 a month. I have a son who lives in Albany and has a nice two bedroom for $800 a month. I also have relatives who live in Plattsburgh and have nice two-bedroom apartments for less than $800 a month. Before we think $1,300 a month for a two-bedroom apartment in P'burgh is the norm, let's do our homework.

Sports
I have to say I am so glad to not have kids in sports right now. It is a very sad event to see what goes on in varsity and other levels. Parents lose their minds just to be in this thing that is supposed to be enjoyable and fun and good for our kids. And I must say some parents need to work hard at being a good human being.

Sewer
To those that think Cumberland Head sewer is about "the lake," think again. Sewering has been talked about for 20 years, long before "green" was in. According to the official State of the Lake report, Cumberland Bay is considered one of the cleanest on the entire lake. For the truth, go to the real-property rolls and see who owns undeveloped land on CH. Then consider who stands to enrich themselves when roads, water and sewer are in place.

Animals
Needs to be mentioned again: Be careful how you drive. Watch out for a stray animal in the road. Stop slowly if you see a cat, squirrel, deer or any outdoor animal. They are only trying to survive and cannot use any tools or "methods of kindness' that we humans can. If you hit a critter, check it out for life. You may think no one knows

how you act, but God is always watching and he has a long memory. He will reward the good and kind humans.

Facebook
Unemployed people complaining about Facebook. You should realize that you can log on in the morning and minimize it and not check it until lunch. Then again, you are unemployed, and I am working to support you. Shame on you. Mind your business. Bosses should supervise their employees not unemployed citizens.
