Decision
I was happy to see that the board at NAC is going to revise their project and give voters another chance to pass it. Maybe this time when they have an informational meeting, more than 64 will choose to be present to get the facts. Maybe those people will also be parents who actually have (or should have) a vested interest in the school and not just a bunch of complainers who could really care less. So enrollment is down — does that mean the children that are there now don't matter?
Please take this second opportunity to make an informed decision.
Generous
I would just like to say a big thank you to the night staff at Adirondack Memorial Hospital. My mom was transferred there from another local hospital in the evening for an emergency procedure. It was a typical wintery night in the North Country and driving conditions were harsh. The staff there set my family up for the night. It was a generous act that really helped us out at a stressful time. The staff there was generous and so kind throughout everything. I know we wouldn't have had that kind of treatment at the other hospital.
Cliques
Hockey, would your parents and coaches please grow up. I'm not a parent, player, or coach, just an individual who spends plenty of time at the rink. This game is for the children, don't forget it. Also scheduling games on a Tuesday night hours away? I guess not everyone works for a living. It's rather sickening to see how these parents go into their little cliques at the hockey rink. One would think it's high school but then again maybe it is with all the cheating going on. You know who you are and should be ashamed.
Pledge
This is what happens when you have liberals indoctrinating their students. For the record, if you ask any first-grader what the symbol is for America and they will say, either the Statue of Liberty or the Stars and Stripes. The pledge being recited in school is to the flag! When you put religion into it, you're just confusing the issue. I pledge allegiance to the flag.
Happy
I would like to take this time to say thank you. Thank you to those who wished me Merry Christmas, though I am Jewish. Thank you to those who wished me Happy Hanukkah, though I am Christian. Thank you to those who wished me Happy Kwanza, even though I don't know anything about the holiday. All that matters is that you wished me happy times at a time of year when everyone should be happy for what they have, no matter what religion they are. May all of us have happy times ahead no matter what our religion is.
Allegiance
I grew up saying the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in school as did nearly the entire country. I do not consider myself to be a religious person but I said the pledge anyway. I do not feel that it has damaged me in any way and do not feel that it took away my freedom of choice because I had to say it.
If you want to keep kids from saying the pledge because it has God in it, then turn in your money because "In God We Trust" is all over it. Argue about real problems facing people.
Tournaments
To those against the fishing tournaments: Look around, the country is in economic crisis but the area managed to bring in more than $8 million dollars of revenue because of these tournaments. Are you complaining about the new restaurants and stores that are opening up? The FLW is conscientious about conservation because they want to keep fishing Lake Champlain. They do all they can to make sure that the fish survive and are returned to the lake. Some fish die, which means they probably weren't healthy to begin with. Keep coming FLW, we need you.
Creation
To the person who wrote "Remove the God Stuff From it," just want to let you know that the first thing I did when I read your article was say a prayer for you, then, if we removed the God stuff we will not have any Christmas, and I love Christmas, and remember God created everyone, you, me, etc. It does not matter what faith you are, you were created by God, and if you look at this world today and the way things are going, people better start thinking about who created this world.
Fish
Catch and release, what a joke! Tell that to the thousands of dead fish found around the lake after the fishing tournaments left the area. Of course Clinton County made $8 million so I guess it was worth it. Is there any chance that any of the hotels or restaurants that made most of the money can now help restock the lake?
Lying
Trying to make a wedding announcement look good by saying that someone graduated from college when they didn't, is lying. Your whole family dynamics is shown to the world, it goes from one generation to the next.
Nobody's family is perfect — even yours!
Plowing
I am a disgruntled neighbor. I want to know why the town's big yellow truck is plowing and sanding a town employee's personal driveway, while I am stuck shoveling my private driveway.
If the town is going to plow one person's drive, they should plow all taxpayers' drives. Do I have to work for the town to get special treatment? If I see this happen again, I will turn you in.
All-stars
Not quite sure how the girls CVAC All Conference Team for soccer is chosen for this area. Shocked that PHS goes the furthest, excelling to state level regional play, in the highest competitive local level for Section VII, Class B, and lands only one player on the All Conference Team. Guess it must have been pure luck that the PHS girls soccer team won so many games. Who knew all the talent was on the teams they were defeating?
Animals
Why are there people out there that seem to take pleasure in purposely running over an animal? Wildlife is often found eating on the sides of the road, especially wild game birds, so why go out of your way to veer off the road to hit one? And we call them the "animals." Get a life and leave a life alone!
Laws
Regarding "Poor," good Lord, are you truly that uneducated to not understand there are laws that prevent wealthy from receiving Medicaid? Lawyers will assist if a family member's aging illness will leave the remaining family member worse off than you are Mr./Ms. poor person, so either get educated or hop off your soap box. Oh wait, you probably got it for free and didn't have to work for it.
Bikes
Regarding "Offenders," sure, let your child ride their bike in Route 9 unsupervised. No intelligent parent would do that to begin with, never mind if there are offenders living there or not, and secondly you have Internet and the state has a sex offender Web site. I recommend you research your next area of residence before moving again this way. You won't have room to complain about sex offenders. They are human too — just humans with mental issues that need help.
Trash
I have a neighbor that burns their trash almost daily; that sweet stench of burning plastic is really wonderful for my breathing disorder and the smoke film on the outside of my home is simply beautiful. I can't complain; they would know it was me. Ha ha.
