Speakout: March 7, 2010

Light
I use the Upper Cornelia and Smithfield Boulevard intersection to enter the Price Chopper/Lowe's parking lot, and the signal lamp to turn south from the west-bound lane is too short. It rarely allows the line of cars to turn before changing to red. A few seconds more time would sure help.

Carts
Could Lowe's hire the fellow that collects shopping carts for Price Chopper? Lowe's carts regularly clog the lot. My right rear tail lamp would appreciate it.

Bulbs
Many overhead lamps on Upper Cornelia Street/Route 3 in the Town of Plattsburgh are still out. I wrote several months ago, and no new bulbs. What does it take to get these street lamps to work?

COs
Again, another article about COs. This time stating the most violent workplace in the world. Guess you were never in the armed forces? Oh, one more thing, you asked to go to work there, not like being told you were going to Vietnam, like it or not.

Grow up
Regarding Referee: If your friend was not behaving appropriately, then the referee should have the right to have him removed. Good sportsmanship isn't just for players and coaches, it is also the responsibility of the fans. Paying two dollars to gain admittance to an event doesn't give you free rein to act like an ass. Grow up and your friend should too.

Beagle
I agree with the person who wrote in about the beagle who is being left outside year round. A beagle is certainly not meant to be outside in freezing cold weather. America, unchain your dogs! Give them the love and loyalty that they give you. No dog should be chained outside all the time. It is unthinkable. And, it is our job to report when animals are being neglected, such as the poor little beagle. So, please call your local animal shelter and see if there is anything they can do if you witness animal neglect or cruelty.

Speeding
In reference to the State Police buying the large SUVs. They need these vehicles so that they can go flying by you on the Northway at speeds over 80 mph to get to the U-turn ahead. Crazy as it seems this just happened to me, and I wanted to stop and ask how they have the right to speed just to get to a U-turn and back up and park. This was surely not an emergency call. Something has to be done. They want you to obey every law this state enforces, but they seem to be above it.

Accountable
Interesting letter you printed from the relative of the drug addicted mom who feels that she was treated unfairly by a local judge. Well miss, if the lady in question chose to be a drug addict and unfit mother then she must be held accountable.

Aliens
Wake up, American citizens and taxpayers. We don't need health-care reform or jobs. If you need free medical care, medicine, money to live on, free education, free legal services just claim to be an illegal alien and all needs are met.

Advertising
What does the Statue of Liberty mean to you? Driving through town, one can see the Statue of Liberty and U.S. flag being used as a form of advertisement. Sure, it makes me remember your business, but in a negative way. Please give these symbolic icons the respect that they deserve.
