Shower
Has anyone ever heard of paying between $50 and $100 to play bingo and have the staff throw a baby shower in the middle of the night while the caller was running the game. Thought I would share this new concept in case someone else would like to try it also. Every day is something new.

Investigate
The County Legislature and the Chamber of Commerce need to be investigated in regard to the airport contract. Cape Air did a wonderful job, the rates were reasonable, their schedule was convenient. Now Clogan has said rates will be higher and the schedule will not be so convenient not to mention their safety record is frightening. Something is seriously wrong with this picture and the legislators have has been very irresponsible in their decision. I have flown on Cape Air in the past, but I will never fly on Clogan.

Out
We are about to enter another state budget mess with the idiots running the state. Don't forget last year when they acted like spoiled children and made the biggest mess of the state ever, it's going to happen again. I have to admit they are hilarious at times like ethics reform. Does anyone really believe a group of crooked, thieving, dishonest, self serving punks are going to do anything to reform something that doesn't even exist? Nothing will ever change until they are all voted out of office. Do not vote for any incumbent come November.

Insurance
What's with the North Country insurance industry missing out on a sure bet of door-to-door selling of renter/tenant insurance? Another family (Stetson Avenue) out on the street with nothing but the clothes on their back. I'm a local landlord, and I insist on my tenants having personal property insurance. Note to renters: Your landlord's insurance does not cover you. Will there be a line up at the insurance agents door after this note, and the last fire? Maybe local agents could set up a "clinic"?

Heroic
Hats off to Ed Cook, athletic director at Beekmantown Central School, for his heroic efforts at this past weekend's Section 7 wrestling championships. It seems as though some Peru fans were not happy that a Beekmantown wrestler won against one of their guys and starting booing. Ed Cook came right out of the crowd and proceeded to discipline them on their behavior. Thank goodness there is still an authority figure out there who will not tolerate this kind of behavior at a high-school event. Congrats to all the wrestlers who wrestled their hearts out.

Honesty
Many local people visit the casino in Hogansburg. It would be interesting to know how many feel the way we do about the multiple giveaways done in the form of drawings where the winner is drawn in the back room of the casino out of the view of the public. The announcer comes out with the ticket and the microphone. I wonder if the ordinary player has a chance? Would it not be better to draw out of a drum of tickets in the open?

Appalled
I am appalled at some of the violently negative responses to published items and comments. The UNYTEA organization has every right to meet, and the press has every right to write about it. If you don't like it, too bad. This is the USA, not your personal domain so grow up and get over it. Taxpayers are sick of footing the bill for free loaders. I have no problem helping the elderly, children, and those who are truly down and out, but I'm not willing to pay for the lazy bums who sit around waiting for a hand out.

Local
How sad. Another small, locally owned shop in the Town of Plattsburgh is closing. We'll all miss the cute antique store with the friendly service, but it's not too late to spare some other businesses. Whenever possible, please try to shop local. Most of the money these places earn goes right back into our own community, and they also donate pretty heavily to local causes and fund raisers. Let's keep our dollars in our own pockets.

Lottery
If you are a Lottery player you must have noticed that the scratch-off tickets have changed from the usual format. It use to be that winning tickets, although not abundant, were included in many of the games the Lottery has produced in a somewhat liberal fashion. Not so any more. I have been playing the "scratch-offs" for a long time and find out that winning tickets have been reduced considerably. I suppose the NY Lottery has to cut down on spending in this era of economic uncertainty like everyone else.

Band
Re Band: Don't you stop to think that the students playing in that concert had to learn to play from someone? You cannot just walk in to a position and 3 months later put on a concert, anyone could do that providing the students could play to start with. It takes several years to become proficient in an instrument; the person who really deserves thanking is Beth Moore, their former music teacher who spent years teaching them to play. Oh and by the way, is this the same band that was supposedly cut from the budget due to a lack of funding? Hmmm.

Strange
Isn't it strange that the federal government can spend billions to help Haiti but they do not take care of our senior citizens? Yes, the people who worked all their lives and built this country.
