Truckers
Listen up truckers. I understand you travel the roads all day and all night sometimes. I understand that your job is very important and that you need to use the highways, too. But no job is worth putting your life or my family at risk. I was traveling on Interstate 87 south last night with my 1-year-old daughter, and the truck in front of me wasn't going very fast but swerved into my lane as I was passing, and I ended up on the rumble strips. Please, if you're tired, leave the road and rest.
Social Security
They want to raise the Social Security age because they say people are living longer thanks to medical breakthroughs and education, and then they want to turn right around and take all the benefits away from the elderly because they cannot afford it. God forbid our country takes care of our elders, who paid for all the security they thought they were entitled to. Cutting from the elderly should be illegal, and our politicians need to make cuts in high public offices, corporate lawyers, greedy contractors, etc. Leave our elderly with dignity and respect by choosing life over medicine and health care.
Farms
Farms have been using the roads in Peru for 200 years — they were here first. The wide intersections in the area were made to facilitate wagons and draft animals hauling their products and byproducts. You are just worried about your new car, when you should have thought about all aspects of where you buy or build a house. You want the benefits of country living without any drawbacks. Go buy a house by the airport and complain about noise. Dirt and manure are natural — the pollution is all in your head.
Marriage
I can't remember — did New York legalize gay marriage or not? If it did, nothing in my life was changed. My marriage and family life, my work, my social life, my religious and spiritual life — all unchanged. (Unless somehow married New York gays are responsible for our incomprehensible new Mass!) Legalized gay marriage is no doubt a big deal for gay men and women who wish to live open and committed lives of love, but for the rest of us, it changes nothing in our lives. But then, why would it?
Coaching
Please remove the language in the employees' contracts that requires that school employees get first dibs on coaching jobs. Since it is likely that parents will be funding sports next year, we should be able to use the services of volunteers who are certified, qualified and fingerprinted. Please don't force us to come up with additional fees to pay for a school employee. Now is the time to change the contract.
