Coaching

The fact that teachers have to be given first dibs on coaching is crazy. We have qualified individuals in the community who would volunteer for free. Please don't hold us hostage to paying district employees when a volunteer could do just as good a job.

Ditch

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped or rolled down their window to see if I was OK when I went in the ditch on the Turnpike last night — Thanks again!

Cat

Thank you to the members of the South Plattsburgh Fire Department and Clinton County Sheriff's Department for rescuing a cat that was left by a heartless person in an abandoned house without heat or food. The actions were truly above and beyond the call of duty, and it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Veterans

Our veterans should not have to go to Albany for services. They served us; now they should be served without the hardship of being forced to go to Albany. The medical profession should recognize this.

Treatment

I think that you should help the people you busted in the November bust by giving them treatment instead of jail if it's their first time being busted just for drugs, even if they have a prior record. The people have an addiction problem, and I honestly think that treatment and probation for those in need of help would be better than jail and having them taken away from their families for a long time. I know your re-election is coming up, so help these people help themselves and better themselves no matter what the evidence is.

Salt

Does anyone know what salt or sand is used for during the winter months? It seems like this town's laws are backward when it comes to the law. This year, hardly anyone de-iced the sidewalks in front of their homes or apartments around town, which sent many pedestrians into the streets to walk. I'm not sure if anyone was fined during this time, but it is the law to keep the grounds clear of ice for pedestrians, especially mail carriers.

Airport

After a recent visit to the Plattsburgh Airport, I was disappointed with how the place was presented. The building has "great bones," but the abstract art doesn't help in establishing this place as a gateway to the region. Why not treat the airport as a visitors center and decorate it with art that highlights the natural beauty of the region and our local history?

Staffing

Does anyone have a loved one living in a non-profit residential home in Clinton County? Are they safe? Did you read the New York Times article in November regarding deaths in downstate homes? You should.
