Screenings to give options for health insurance
SARANAC LAKE — The Tri-Lakes Uninsured Task Force is sponsoring a series of Health Insurance Eligibility Screenings during this year's Cover the Uninsured Week Campaign, now going on.

Screenings are: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today , Tupper Lake Health Center; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Lake Placid Health Center; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, March 22, during kindergarten registration at Petrova Elementary School Auditorium, Saranac Lake; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, also at Petrova Elementary.

March 24 is the snow date for March 22 and 23 events. According to December 2008 phone survey in the Tri-Lakes region, approximately 12 percent, or 2,500 adults and 4 percent (270) children locally were without health insurance. The screenings, lasting 10-to-15 minutes, are free and open to anyone who is without insurance or anyone concerned that they may soon become uninsured.

PLATTSBURGH — To encourage community members to become fans of CVPH Medical Center's new Facebook page, raffles will be held every other Friday, beginning this week.

New friends of CVPH Medical Center can win one of five $20 gift certificates to the Butcher Block.

Facebook is a tool for both CVPH Medical Center and the Foundation of CVPH to provide news, updates and upcoming events.

 
Mental health topic

of monthly Brown Bag

PLATTSBURGH — The next Brown Bag Mental Health Education Series presentation will take place from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, in the first-floor meeting room of the Clinton County Government Center, Margaret Street.

A representative of the Social Security Administration will speak on "Special Needs: Trusts, Social Security and PASS."

The monthly Brown Bag events are hosted by National Alliance on Mental Illness: Champlain Valley and Behavioral Health Services North. Participants are invited to bring along a bag lunch to eat during the talk.

Parkinson's Group
to meet March 24

PLATTSBURGH — The Parkinson's Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Pine Harbour Assisted Living Facility, 15 New Hampshire Street.

Guest speaker Stephanie Desautels will discuss the City of Plattsburgh Half Marathon to benefit Team Fox for Parkinson's Research.

Participants are asked to bring any information, articles or dates of importance they may have come across during the winter months.

Workshop teaches pain management
WESTPORT — The Mental Health Association in Essex County, 6096 Route 9, will host the free six-week workshop Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays, March 26 through April 30.

The research-based course teaches management of chronic conditions in order to lessen such effects as depression and pain. Topics include pain and fatigue management, relaxation techniques and stress reduction, goal setting and healthy lifestyle tips.
