Spring theme of first kids art event
PLATTSBURGH — An exhibit for children by children has its own room at North Country Cultural Center for the Arts.
Saturday, March 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. is the first of a series of free events hosted there by "Whimsical World" author Jan Stanley and illustrator Tamia Gastio. Children ages 3 to 8 accompanied by adults are invited to take part in "Wings and Things for Spring."
"The kids will be creating bugs, bees, birds, flowers," Stanley said. "They'll have the option of leaving them (for exhibit) or taking them home."
Decorating the room will be life-sized panels of spring-themed pages from the books "A Whimsical World" and "12 Months of Fun" so (the children) are immersed in art at their level," Stanley said.
Other events will include interactive story hour and playtime.
"We'll try to do at least one per month," she said.
The program is made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program administered locally by the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts.
