Safe-Boating Course scheduled

RAY BROOK — A New York Safe-Boating Course will be offered for free by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The class will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the DEC Region 5 Headquarters in Ray Brook.

Students must be at least 10 years of age.

Trout Pond Road to be closed Monday

CHESTERFIELD — Trout Pond Road will be closed for through traffic on Monday, Aug. 6, for about 10 hours, starting at 6:30 a.m., for culvert repairs.

Residences up to number 1094 (Taylor) will be accessed from Route 9 (Lewis end), and residences from 1161 (Ethel Stone) and up will be accessed from Green Street (Clintonville).

Westport Central compiling list of disabled students

WESTPORT — The Westport Central School District is asking that parents who believe their child may have a disabling condition to notify the school.

The district is responsible for maintaining a roster of all disabled students from birth to age 21. That includes any disabling condition, including emotional, intellectual or mental.

The list provides the School Board with the information needed to plan staffing and funding to serve those with special needs.

Town of Champlain to amend zoning

CHAMPLAIN — The Champlain Town Council has passed a resolution appointing a temporary Zoning Amendment Advisory Committee to oversee the preparation of a draft amended Zoning Law and zoning map.

The town hired Scott Allen of AES Northeast as project consultant to assist the committee, which will hold meetings to work on the draft at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, as well as Sept. 13 and Oct. 11, at the Town Offices, 729 Route 9 in Champlain. The meetings are open to all.

The public will also have the opportunity to participate and comment at a joint meeting of the Zoning Board and Planning Board, tentatively scheduled for late fall; at the presentation of the draft law to the Town Council following the joint Zoning/Planning meeting (late fall, early winter); at a Clinton County Planning Board meeting in early winter; and Town Council public hearing that will follow in mid or late winter.

Dannemora Town Council working on budget

DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Town Council will meet to discuss the 2013 budget at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Town Hall.

This will be preceded by a public hearing at 3:45 p.m. concerning the removal of an unsafe building.

The regular monthly board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Lyon Mountain Fire Station, also preceded by a public hearing at 5:50 p.m. on a change to the existing dog licensing law.

All of the meetings are open to the public.
