Town of Peru announces road closure, opening

PERU — The Town of Peru Highway Department announces both a road closing and an opening in the area.

Parsons Road will be close for paving on August 2.

Emergency vehicles and local residents will be able to access the road.

The department also said Washington Street is now reopened to the public.

Westport Central compiling list of disabled students

WESTPORT — The Westport Central School District asks that parents who believe their child may have a disabling condition to notify the school.

The district is responsible for maintaining a roster of all disabled students from birth to age 21. That includes any disabling condition, including emotional, intellectual or mental. The list provides the School Board with the information needed to plan staffing and funding to serve those with special needs.

Call the District Office at 962-8244 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

City Common Council to meet today

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will take action on several items at tonight’s meeting.

Among them is acting on a request from Plattsburgh State to divert and direct one-way traffic in a westerly direction on Rugar Street between the Myers Fine Arts building and Sanborn Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, to accommodate the arrival of students for the fall semester.

Also up for approval is a contract for a new tractor priced at $34,369, to be awarded to Sample’s Lawn and Garden in Chazy.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular session at 5:30 p.m.

Both are open to the public.

Agenda planned for ELCS School Board meeting

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the conference room.

A possible board-member video and/or phone conferencing may take place.

Agenda items include a special-education report, the student/parent handbook, two resignations, extra-curricular appointments, a cafeteria meal price increase, along with routine actions.

The public may attend.

Peru VFW Post 309 Field Day canceled

PERU  — The Field Day scheduled for Sunday at Peru Memorial Veterans of Foreign War Post 309 has been canceled.
