Seminar to address holiday grief
PLATTSBURGH — First Assembly of God, 164 Prospect Ave., will host "GriefShare: Surviving the Holiday" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.
The free seminar is designed to help people facing the holidays after a loved one's death.
Child care will be provided for those through fifth grade. Topics to be discussed include "Why the Holidays are Tough," "What to Expect," How to Prepare," "How to Manage Relationships and Holiday Socials" and "Using the Holidays to Help You Heal."

Ecumenical service to offer encouragement
CHAMPLAIN — Northern Tier Ministries will join together for a Thanksgiving Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Champlain. The Rev. Al Johnson, pastor of Mooers United Methodist Church, will share God's word about "encouraging and building up each other" based on St. Paul's letter to the church at Thessalonia (4:18 to 5:18).
The service will address the Pfizer closings announced this week, showing support for those whose jobs will be lost.
All are welcome.
Retreat to focus on Advent
ELLENBURG CENTER — A retreat called "Make Your Home in Me, as I Make Mine in you — an Advent Journey" will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer, Ellenburg Center.
The Rev. Roger McGuinness, a press release said, "will help us prepare and open our hearts to examine the desire of Jesus to be born into us as we live in anticipation of being born fully into Him."
The event will be a day of reflection on the mystery and wonder of the Incarnation, with anticipated Mass, Reconciliation and meditation time included.
