PLATTSBURGH — The deadline is today to reserve and pay for a seat for the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department's senior trip to Burlington's Flynn Theatre for a concert featuring the Irish band Dervish.

Program to focus
on balance, aging

WESTPORT — The program Balance, Aging and Outdoor Living will be presented by physical therapist/personal trainer Brian Trzaskos and outdoor guide Elizabeth Lee at the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16.

The free program is offered to people of all ages who are interested in maintaining or improving their balance and flexibility as they age.

In Essex County, a press release said, most towns can't respond to the recreational and health-maintenance needs of older residents.

"As a result, many residents reduce their level of outdoor activity, diminishing both their mental and physically vitality, especially during the winter months," the release said. "Many adults attribute their diminished activity to fear of falling and uncertainty about safe terrain."

The program was developed in response to data provided by Patty Bashaw of the Essex County Office of the Aging. Caregivers, family-members and neighbors of older adults are encouraged to attend and learn tips and techniques that facilitate outdoor activity.
