Cell Phone Bank benefits RSVP

MALONE -- Numerous businesses have signed up to collect retired cell phones for the Franklin

County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). The phones provide funds for Meals on Wheels and other senior programs as well as emergency cell phones for seniors in need.

Franklin County RSVP has partnered with the 911 Cell Phone Bank, a nonprofit organization that provides no-cost emergency cell phones to law-enforcement and victim-services agencies nationwide. Under the agreement, the county will collect phones in the community, which will be turned over to the 911 Cell Phone Bank for processing, valuation and re-marketing. In return, the 911 Cell Phone Bank will provide the cash value of the collected cell phones as well as free emergency cell phones. All money generated by the partnership will be used to fund programs for seniors.
