P’burgh meeting on flood study set for March 11
PLATTSBURGH — A session set for 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Plattsburgh has been added to meetings coming up in Burlington and Montreal to invite public input on draft Plan of Study for the Identification of Measures to Mitigate Flooding and the Impacts of Flooding in the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain Watershed.
The Plattsburgh meeting will take place at Hampton Inn & Suites, 586 Route 3.
A previous notice had said the meeting would take place today, March 5, but that was incorrect.
Hosted by the International Lake Champlain-Richelieu River Work Group and attended by International Joint Commission Commissioner Dereth Glance, the meetings will provide an overview of the report, followed by an opportunity for comments from the audience.
The draft plan, initiated by the United States and Canada after catastrophic flooding of the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain in spring 2011, identifies the studies necessary to allow an evaluation of the causes and impacts of that flooding, as well as the studies necessary to develop appropriate mitigation solutions and recommendations.

Comments received by March 18 will assist the Work Group in developing the final plan of study that will be submitted to the International Joint Commission by the end of the month.
Saranac Lake School Board meeting planned
SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake Central School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Petrova Library.
Agenda items include a presentation on literacy in the Middle School, first readings of board policy, a budget up.
Three B’town Central Board seats up for vote
BEEKMANTOWN — Beekmantown Central School District has board seats available for vote in May: two five-year terms that will expire June 20, 2018 and one unexpired term that would go from May 21 this year through June 30, 2018.
Petitions are available from the district clerk at 197 Haynes Road between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or on the district website at www.bcsdk12.org.
Petitions must be returned to the clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. April 22.
Currently, five-year term seats are held by Richard LaVigne and Steve Trombley. The unexpired seat is held by Ed Marin.
Peru Central School Budget Advisory Committee to inform community
PERU —The Peru Central School Budget Advisory Committee is designed to foster a community of informed district voters this budget season.
At a recent meeting, the committee discussed ways of making information about the school and its 2013-14 spending plan both easily accessible and digestible to district residents.
Committee members’ suggestions included keeping the minutes of School Board meetings up to date on the district’s website, perucsd.org; using Facebook and Twitter to communicate information to the community; and disseminating budgetary data at Peru Town Council meetings.
It was also noted that adding photos and informational graphics to budget fliers, which are mailed to district residents annually before the public budget vote in May, might help to draw people in and encourage them to read such documents in full.
The Peru Central Budget Advisory Committee will meet again at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in the High School Community Room. Its meetings are open to the public.
