Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County cuts hours
WARRENSBURG — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County has cut its hours to a four-day workweek due to a 35-percent cut in local funding.

The Warrensburg office, located at 377 Schroon River Road, will be closed Fridays until further funding is acquired, a press release said.

"Cornell Cooperative Extension's Board of Directors made this difficult decision to reduce employee hours, and through the reduction of business hours is hoping to save in building maintenance costs," the release said.

The agency is actively seeking grants and increasing fundraising efforts to help supplement the loss in funding.

Annual event seeks bird counters
The 13th-annual Great Backyard Bird Count goes from Friday, Feb. 12, through Monday, Feb. 15, when everyone can help scientists learn more about how birds are faring in their neighborhoods.

You can participate once or several times over the four days, submitting a list to www.birdcount.org of the birds you see in your backyard, schoolyard, local park or nature center.

The more people who participate, the better the information scientists will have about how bird populations may be changing over time due to habitat loss, climate change, disease or other factors, a press release said.

For more information, call Nancy Welch at Cornell Cooperative Extension: 548-6191.
