Adirondack Harvest's annual meeting Jan. 11

WESTPORT — Adirondack Harvest will be holding its 2012 Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 11, and the public is welcome to attend.

The region-wide buy-local food initiative of the North Country cultivates interest in locally produced foods and supports family farms in many ways.

All interested community members are encouraged to attend one of the four sites across the Adirondacks. Most sites will host a dinner meeting followed by a region-wide meeting via video conference.

For location details, information or to RSVP, contact Laurie Davis (for Essex and Clinton counties) at 962-4810, Ext. 404; or Bernadette Logozar (St. Lawrence and Franklin counties) at 483-7403.

Farmers Market re-opens Thursday

PLATTSBURGH — The Winter Farmers Market will re-open from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 12 at the City Gym, 52 U.S. Oval.

Online ordering will open Saturdays and close Mondays, with pickup each Thursday at the market.

Beekeeping class offered

PLATTSBURGH — Dick Crawford, longtime apiarist and president of the Champlain Valley Beekeepers Association, will teach a beekeeping class starting Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, at 4 Palmer St.

The class, which is being offered by the Plattsburgh Community Garden Group, is open to the public.

The Garden Group will buy all the supplies needed to get started with two hives, which will likely be kept at the Hulbert Garden site on Route 3. The group will meet two times in the winter to get familiar with the process and order supplies.

The next meeting will be to set up the hives in late April, and then the group will meet about once a month through the summer. A fall meeting will be needed to put the hives to bed.

Cost is $50 per person. Each beekeeper is responsible for ordering his or her protective clothing. The class fee will be collected at the first meeting, and protective-clothing options will be discussed.
