PLATTSBURGH — Caregiver workshop

planned in E-town

ELIZABETHTOWN — A three-part workshop for caregivers starts at 10 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Hand House on River Street here.

The Caregiver Stress Reduction workshop aims to teach caregivers stress-reduction techniques derived from yoga, mindful breathing, Tai Chi and massage. Resources about caring for a loved one will also be provided.

The workshop, which is free and open to any caregiver, is sponsored by High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care and the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center.

Kids' Carnivale part of Mardi Gras fundraiser

The 10th-annual Mardi Gras North event to raise funds for Behavioral Health Services North Inc.'s Young Children's Mental Health Initiative is from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the City Rec Center on the U.S. Oval.

This year's Kids' Carnivale includes a free kids' and family event, with activities including mask decorating; the bouncy house; and activities provided by Guibord's School of Dance, ZumbAtomic, Steve's Contact Karate and the Imaginarium Children's Museum. New York state Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, the 2012 Mardi Gras North queen, will lead the kids' parade. The Gratto Family Entertainers and Burghy will interact with children.

The Mardi Gras North event is from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 19 at Anthony's Restaurant. Tickets to that portion of the fundraiser are available at www.bhsn.org or by calling 563-8206, Ext. 139.
