Meeting to strengthen regional chef, farmer bond

LAKE PLACID — A gathering of chefs and farmers is planned at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Generations Restaurant at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, 2559 Main St.

The meeting aims to encourage culinary and agricultural connections, resulting in more Adirondack-grown food served in local restaurants. It is open to all regional chefs and growers interested in learning more about making these connections.

"We'll meet in a casual setting, discuss our successes and challenges, have some refreshments and find out what our farmers are growing and what chefs are looking for," Laurie Davis, Adirondack Harvest coordinator, wrote in a news release.

For more information, call 962-4810, Ext. 404.

2012 agricultural assessment deadline March 1

WESTPORT — The Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District will be helping agricultural landowners complete soil group worksheets for agricultural exemption.

The exemption is for qualifying landowners earning $10,000 or more per year from their agricultural operation. Landowners making changes to current qualifying parcels need to have updated worksheets for acreage changes and ownership changes.

Landowners should contact their local assessor to determine eligibility. If eligible, contact the district for a new or updated soil group worksheet. The deadline to file for an exemption with your assessor is March 1. Contact the district office at 962-825 or essex swcd@westelcom.com for a form.

Quilt raffle to benefit nonprofit

PLATTSBURGH — The Champlain Valley Quilters Guild of New York invites proposals from nonprofit organizations that serve the areas represented by the club's membership.

The deadline for the proposals is April 1, 2012. Notification of selection will be made before the end of May 2012.
