Police Log: July 15, 2010 — Personal Injury accident

WEST CHAZY — A West Chazy woman was injured early Wednesday evening when she was struck by a car while riding a lawnmower.

Shirley M. Labarge, age unknown, was cutting the grass at her 629 Slosson Road home at about 5:45 p.m. when she attempted to turn around in the roadway adjacent to her lawn, according to Chazy-based State Police.

Labarge entered Slosson Road with the Craftsman riding lawnmower to turn around, but did not see an oncoming 1999 International U.S. Postal Service vehicle, police said.

The driver of the mail carrier, Ronald St. Lewis, age unknown, of Plattsburgh, applied the breaks and swerved into the grass to avoid hitting Labarge, but she also tried to avoid him and swerved the mower.

Police said the mower was hit only by a tire on the rear driver's side of the mail carrier.

Labarge suffered a minor injury and was transported to CVPH Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

No tickets will be issued, police said.
