FORT COVINGTON — A Hudson Falls man incurred felony charges Feb. 27 in connection with cigarette smuggling.
At 2:15 p.m. on State Route 37 in the Town of Fort Covington, Malone-based State Police stopped a car driven by Zachary S. Nelson, 27, because his passenger was not wearing a seat belt, Malone-based State Police said.
Inside the vehicle, police found a box containing 52 clear bags containing about 10,400 untaxed cigarettes, police said.
Nelson was charged with possessing or transporting more than 10,000 unstamped cigarettes, a felony.
Nelson was released to a third party and was scheduled to appear Fort Covington Town Court on March 5.
