FELONY ARREST
MOOERS — State Police say a transient was arrested after he was allegedly connected to a stolen vehicle that was abandoned locally.

Chazy-based State Police were called to an area near Cannon Corners Road Monday morning after a hunter spotted the Volkswagon unattended and reported it to Border Patrol officials.

During the investigation, authorities learned the vehicle, which was left near the Canadian border, was reported stolen from Niagara Falls.

While searching the surrounding area later Monday, officials found Giovanni G. Stoll, 28, wandering the woods on the Canadian side of the border, allegedly carrying the keys to the stolen vehicle.

Stoll, who, authorities said, claimed to be from New York City, was then taken into custody for third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

After his arrest, Stoll was arraigned and sent to Clinton County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

He was still in custody Tuesday morning.

NORTH HUDSON — Two New Jersey residents were taken into custody on federal charges earlier this month following a traffic stop on Interstate 87.

State Police arrested Carlos R. Cisneros, 40, and Jose B. Fonseca, 31, Nov. 19 on unspecified federal charges relating to an immigration investigation.

No additional information about their arrests was immediately available Tuesday.

PORT HENRY — A Florida man was jailed earlier this week after he was allegedly found in possession of illegal guns locally.

Westport-based State Police stopped Thomas J. Mauro on Main Street Monday night when they allegedly found him with two handguns that were not properly registered in New York.

Police said he was also found in possession of a rifle.

The 57-year-old was subsequently charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

One set of the charges alleges that two of the weapons were loaded at the time of the 9 p.m. traffic stop.

After his arraignment, Maura was sent to Essex County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
