Police Log: Nov. 22, 2009 — Felony arrest

JAY — A Peru man is accused of violating an order of protection.

Thomas J. Martineau, 37, was arrested by Ray Brook-based State Police Nov. 9 and charged with first-degree criminal contempt.

State police allege that, while he was being held at Clinton County Jail in June, Martineau wrote a letter to his estranged wife, which she received in Jay on June 30. A court order of protection prohibited Martineau from having any communication with the woman.

According to State Police, Martineau wrote the letter under a false name, but references to children and other personal matters in the note identified him as the person who actually drafted it.

Martineau was arraigned in Town of Jay Court and sent to Clinton County Jail, where he was being held Saturday night for lack of $200 cash bail or $400 bond.

He is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.
