Police Log: Nov. 20, 2009 — Federal arrest

ROUSES POINT — Authorities say three Chinese citizens were working in the Plattsburgh area illegally and were recently arrested on federal immigration charges.

The three men — Quing Wu, 31; Binhua Zheng, 50; and Songbin Piao, 46, — were arrested at the Rouses Point border crossing Wednesday after they were denied entry into Canada.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the trio were en route to another job in Vermont when they took a wrong turn and ended up at the northern crossing.

After being turned back to the U.S. side, the three were referred to a secondary inspection because of a lack of identification.

Subsequent record checks revealed the three men were in the country illegally and had been for about four years.

All three are now being held at Clinton County Jail pending a deportation hearing.
