FELONY ARRESTS
AUSABLE — Two Keeseville stepbrothers are facing criminal charges after they allegedly assaulted their father and one of them damaged household items during a dispute over drinking alcohol.
State Police in Keeseville received a report early Saturday that two teens had been in a fight with their father and had damaged items inside their own home.
At about 4:49 a.m., Brett A. Harris, 17, was subsequently charged with one felony count of criminal mischief, three misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and misdemeanor assault.
Kaleb J. Wood, Harris' 16-year-old stepbrother, was also charged with misdemeanor assault.
State Police allege that Harris and Wood both assaulted their father during an argument about the two teens' consumption of alcohol. Harris allegedly broke an oven range in the home, which was valued at more than $250 and therefore warranted a felony charge, as well as other items in the home.
Both teens were taken to Clinton County Jail, where Harris was being held Saturday without bail and Wood was being held for lack of $250 bail or $500 bond.
TUPPER LAKE — A Troy man was arrested on a warrant for a drug charge following a traffic stop.
Shawn P. Eggsware, 19, was pulled over on Route 30 at 8:55 p.m. Friday for driving 20 miles over the 55-miles-per-hour speed limit, according to Tupper Lake-based State Police.
During the course of the traffic stop, State Police learned that a warrant had been issued for Eggsware's arrest.
He was taken into custody and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The warrant was issued subsequent to Eggsware's alleged possession of cocaine in March of this year.
He will be arraigned Monday in Franklin County Court.
Eggsware is being held at Franklin County Jail without bail until his arraignment.
CONDITION UPDATE
BURLINGTON, Vt. — The two Clinton County men injured Friday in a two-car head-on collision were in stable condition Saturday.
At 11:55 a.m. Friday, Vincent E. Monty, 19, of Plattsburgh was driving east on Route 3 in a 1994 Saturn SL and Gregory B. Campbell, 60, of Keeseville was driving west in a 2003 Ford Escape when the two vehicle crashed into each other head-on.
Abigail E. Pruitt, 19, of Pittsford and a student at Paul Smith's College was a passenger in Monty's car and was killed in the accident.
Monty suffered head, chest and leg injuries and was taken by ambulance to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where he underwent surgery. He was later transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., where he was in stable condition Saturday afternoon.
Campbell, the former chairman of the Adirondack Park Agency and former Clinton County Republican Party chairman, suffered multiple leg fractures and was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was then transported by ambulance to Fletcher Allen, where he was also in stable condition Saturday afternoon.
Paul Smith's College President John W. Mills released a statement Saturday on the accident.
"Our entire community is tremendously saddened by the loss of Abigail, a sophomore in our environmental science program. Our deepest sympathies go out to her friends and family."
"Our thoughts are also with Vincent Monty, a fellow student who was seriously injured in the accident. Vincent, also a sophomore, is a member of our surveying program. We are hopeful for his recovery. The coming days are difficult and we will do everything possible to ease the pain that we each share."
Paul Smith's College will have counselors available to assist students in need of support.
The investigation into the accident is continuing. Anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to or during the accident is urged to contact State Police in Ray Brook at (518) 897-2000.
