Police Log: Oct. 31, 2009 — Felony arrest

NORTH HUDSON — A North Hudson man is accused of illegally selling two rifles.

State Police received a report Oct. 1 that two rifles had been sold by someone with a previous felony conviction, which made the sale of the firearms illegal.

Following an investigation into the complaint, Lorenzo Baker, 45, signed a voluntary consent form to have his residence searched by State Police investigators.

Baker was subsequently arrested by Schroon Lake-based State Police at 11 a.m. Thursday on a charge of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

State Police allege that Baker has a previous felony conviction and that it was therefore illegal for him to sell the rifles, which resulted in the felony charge.

He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. State Police allege that marijuana-smoking paraphernalia was found in Baker's residence.

He was sent to Essex County Jail, where he was being held Friday evening for lack of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond.

Baker is scheduled to appear in Town of North Hudson Court at 3 p.m. Nov. 3.
