Police Log: Oct. 8, 2009 — Felony arrest

TICONDEROGA — A Ticonderoga man is facing a string of charges after allegedly stealing goods from a discount sale at a local business.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. Monday, Ticonderoga Village Police discovered an unoccupied vehicle parked on the side of Route 22.

The keys were in the ignition, and a variety of shoe boxes were inside, according to Ticonderoga Village Police.

Officers then followed what appeared to be a foot path in the nearby grass, which led them to tents set up on the property of Treadway Outfitters on Route 9N.

Police noticed that the clips used to keep the tents closed had been unfastened.

Upon entering one of the tents, which contained discounted shoes and other merchandise, police found Darran J. Johnson, 44, and took him into custody.

Johnson was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.

Police allege that Johnson stole and was in possession of approximately $615 worth of shoes and other goods from the sale.

He was also charged with possession of burglary tools.

Johnson submitted to a breath test and allegedly had a blood-alcohol content of greater than 0.08 percent.

He was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle for allegedly driving without a driver's license.

Johnson was arraigned in Ticonderoga Town Court and later sent to Essex County Jail, where he continues to be held for lack of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to return to court today.
