---- — CHAMPLAIN — A Colombian man was arrested Saturday in the Town of Champlain for alleged possession of counterfeit money.
According to Chazy-based State police, Darinel Pimiento, 37, was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Amtrak train station at approximately 4 p.m. after a search of his belongings revealed that he was in possession of two counterfeit $100 bills with the same serial number.
Pimiento, who had been working in Brooklyn, N.Y., on a visa, police said, had just returned to the United States from Montreal by train.
He was charged with one count of first-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and arraigned in Town Court before Justice Favro at approximately 6 p.m.
Pimiento was remanded to Clinton County Jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond and is scheduled to reappear in court with his attorney for a preliminary felony hearing at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10.
