MALONE — A Fort Covington man was arrested Sunday after allegedly dragging a police officer in his vehicle.
Malone Village Police said Jeffery M. Durbin, 34, was pulled over by officers at a traffic stop on Fort Covington Street in Malone around 1 a.m. Sunday.
After being given a sobriety test, according to police, Durbin was given permission by officers to retrieve an item from his vehicle.
Police said he then got in his vehicle, pinning an officer between the vehicle and its door, and began driving down the road, dragging the officer with him.
A police vehicle was able to stop Durbin after a short distance, and the pinned officer, who suffered minor scrapes and bruises, was freed.
Durbin was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated; third-degree assault; resisting arrest; reckless driving; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; and fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, all misdemeanors; as well as first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
He was arraigned in Town Court before Judge Cositore and remanded to Franklin county jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
No date had been set for Durbin to reappear in court as of Sunday afternoon.
