MALONE — Four people died in two Malone-area Route 30 automobile accidents within eight hours of each other Saturday.
PEDESTRIAN KILLED
Timothy L. Raymond, 40, was hit and killed by a car late Saturday night on Route 30 in the Town of Malone.
Raymond was walking in the northbound lane of Route 30 at about 11:02 p.m. He was hit by a 2003 Ford Focus traveling north driven by Gary J. Landry, 56, of Malone, according to a police report.
Raymond was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon. His body was taken to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. An autopsy will be performed at a later date.
Malone-based Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit officers continue to investigate.
TRIPLE FATAL
A two-car crash Saturday afternoon on Route 30 in the Town of Duane left three people dead and one in critical condition.
At 2:54 p.m. Saturday, Peter L. Patrenicola, 62, of Malone, was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition north on Route 30 when he crossed into the southbound lane and crashed into a 2005 BMW traveling south. The BMW was driven by Patrick M. Krolak, 42, of Chicago.
Krolak's vehicle went off the road via the west shoulder and overturned. Krolak and his passengers, Patrick D. Krolak, 72, and Rita A. Krolak, 70, of Dover, Mass., were pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon.
After hitting Krolak's car, Patrenicola's SUV overturned, caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames, according to a police report. Shortly after, he was rescued from the burning car by a passerby. Patrenicola was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center and later transferred to Fletcher Allen Heath Care in Burlington. He was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
Autopsies for the Krolaks have been scheduled.
Fire and Rescue from Duane, Malone and Owl's Head responded to the scene in addition to Malone-based State Police. North Country Life Flight was also called to stand by.
The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the accident.
