MALONE — A Fort Covington man will spend eight years in state prison for the rape of a female teenager during a three-year period.
Martin Lonkey, 50, was in court on two counts of first-degree rape, one count of third-degree rape and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
An agreement was worked out as part of an Alford plea, where “the judge believed there was substantial evidence of the defendant’s guilt” and Lonkey “agreed the evidence against him was overwhelming,” said District Attorney Derek Champagne.
Franklin County Court Judge Robert G. Main Jr. sentenced Lonkey to eight years for the two counts of first-degree rape, four years for third-degree rape and one year in the County Jail for each of the three endangering counts.
Main ordered the time to be served concurrently rather than consecutively.
The judge also ordered Lonkey to serve 15 years of post-release supervision and to pay a $3,000 fine.
The DA said the victim was 13 at the time the incidents began in July 2007 and 15 when they ended.
Champagne said the victim’s family was satisfied with the plea arrangement because they wanted to spare her the ordeal of testifying at trial.
