City burglary case transferred to County Court

19-year-old allegedly connected to a string of break-ins, thefts

PLATTSBURGH — JayQuan Quick's burglary case has been moved from the Plattsburgh City Court to Clinton County Court.

The Plattsburgh man, 19, faces charges in connection with five separate burglaries, including some over the holidays at the residences of Plattsburgh State students.

At least 30 break-ins and thefts, some of them at businesses, had taken place over that time period — some of those were discovered after a developing pattern had prompted door-to-door inquiry by City of Plattsburgh Police.

Quick was arrested Jan. 18 after a passer-by reported an early morning intruder at the Agency Insurance building, at the intersection of South Catherine and Broad streets.

Quick tried to escape, police said, but was apprehended on the roof of the Plattsburgh building.

Authorities said he was caught with items from a nearby business that had been burglarized that morning, as well.

And Quick also was in possession of an iPod that, police said, had been reported stolen from an apartment on South Catherine Street in early December 2011.

NUMEROUS CHARGES

A search warrant was issued for Quick's residence at 48 Couch St., and police said it revealed stolen items — including a 32-inch flat-screen television — that the suspect allegedly admitted to taking when he committed a burglary.

Among other items were video games, gaming consoles, iPods, iPads, laptops, jewelry and some cash, police said.

In connection to the Agency Insurance crime, Quick was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, and petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors.

Additional charges included second-degree burglary and fifth-degree possession of stolen property.

Later that day, other felony charges were added to the list: three for second-degree burglary and one each for third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.

Those were related to alleged burglaries at 5086 and 5084 South Catherine St. during December and 81 Brinkerhoff St. in January.

No court date has yet been set.
