---- — SCHROON — Two people were charged in connection with a November fraud case.
Brianna M. Benvie, 20, of Schroon Lake and Walter R. Thatcher, 32, of Schroon allegedly sold 50/50 raffle tickets for a bogus fundraiser for the North Country SPCA, Lewis-based State Police said.
The pair set up a table at a Stewart’s Shop in Schroon Lake Nov. 15 and collected about $60 in ticket sales, police said.
Both Benvie and Thatcher were charged the next day with first-degree scheme to defraud involving 10 or more persons, a felony; and second-degree criminal impersonation and fifth-degree conspiracy, both misdemeanors.
They were arraigned in the Town of North Hudson Court and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Schroon Court at a later date, police said.
