Police Log: Sept. 21, 2011 — Personal-injury accident

SARANAC — Four teenagers suffered injuries early Saturday evening in a one-car accident on the Hardscrabble Road.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff's Department, Joseph Bernardi, 17, of Cadyville, was driving a 2003 two-door Chevrolet sedan at about 4:56 p.m. when he attempted to avoid two bicyclists in the roadway by changing lanes.

Deputies said Bernardi overcompensated, drove off the road and struck a tree, causing the car to become airborne and land on its roof.

Bernardi and his three passengers — Josh VanNatten, 19, of Plattsburgh, and two 15-year-old boys — were transported by ambulance to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, deputies said.

The Press-Republican confirmed through multiple sources that the two 15-year-old passengers were Cameron VanNatten of Plattsburgh and Michael Bernardi of Cadyville.

Sources told the Press-Republican that Michael Bernardi, the brother of the driver, was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, where he was treated and released.

Bernardi and both VanNattens were treated at CVPH Medical Center and released.

The exact nature of their injuries was not available Tuesday, but deputies confirmed that all of those injured in the crash, including the boy transferred to the Vermont hospital, had been treated and released.

The investigation into the accident was ongoing Tuesday and tickets were pending.
