STRUCTURE FIRE
TICONDEROGA — An early morning fire did moderate damage to a popular Ticonderoga snack bar Sunday.
Ticonderoga firefighters were called to the Wind Chill Factory on Hague Road (Route 9N) at 1:17 a.m., where they found a fire burning in the back of the building.
"Firefighters did an outstanding job knocking the fire down quickly," Ticonderoga Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Watts said.
"Unfortunately there was extensive damage inside the building."
The Wind Chill Factory is owned by Robert Porter of Ticonderoga and was closed for the season.
Crown Point and Putnam fire companies were called for mutual aid, and National Grid disconnected power to the building. Ticonderoga Town Police, Essex County Air One and Ticonderoga Emergency Squad were also at the fire.
Watts said the Essex County Fire Investigation Unit was at the blaze to try to determine how it started.
"The official cause has not been finalized yet."
No one was in the building when the fire started, and no injuries were reported fighting the blaze.
FELONY ARREST
SARANAC LAKE — A teenager faces a felony and other charges after he was arrested Sunday morning.
In a press release, Saranac Lake Village Police reported a 17-year-old male from Saranac Lake, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested in the village at 6:03 a.m. He reportedly admitted to being in possession of a small number of pills of two different controlled substances, a small amount of marijuana and three cans of beer.
The teenager was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. He was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of alcohol by someone under 21 years of age.
He was later arraigned in Saranac Lake Village Court and then released under the supervision of the probation department.
PERSONAL-INJURY ACCIDENT
CHAZY — A Mooers Forks woman was injured in a car accident late last week.
Police reported that at about 2:15 p.m. Friday, a Hogansburg man stopped at the intersection of Tappin Road and Route 11. While attempting to cross to the Garrand Road, Leo Fox, 22, failed to observe the vehicle traveling on Route 11 driven by Pamela J. Martin, 55.
Fox struck Martin's vehicle on Route 11, police said.
Martin was transported to CVPH Medical Center for arm injuries and was later released. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
Fox was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
CHAZY — A Rouses Point man was arrested after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a tree Saturday.
Police said Jake Lincourt, 20, was driving a 2001 GMC pickup eastbound on Macadam Road at about 4 a.m., when he lost control of the truck and exited a curve on the north side of the roadway, striking a tree.
Police said Lincourt showed signs of intoxication and complained of head and back pain. He was transported to CVPH Medical Center for evaluation and was arrested there at 5:40 a.m. Police said he sustained only minor injuries.
Lincourt was ticketed for speed unreasonable and failure to keep right. Driving-while-intoxicated charges are pending, awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol test.
Lincourt is scheduled to appear in Chazy Town Court Tuesday.
