HEUVELTON — A Heuvelton man was injured and his horse was killed when a car allegedly hit his buggy Thursday.
At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Samuel D. Miller, 39, was driving the buggy westbound on State Route 184 in Heuvelton when a vehicle driven by Richard E. Smithers, 55, of Ogdensburg struck Miller’s buggy from behind, according to Canton-based State Police.
The buggy was damaged and a veterinarian had to euthanize the horse at the site of the accident because of the severity of its injuries, police said.
Miller was transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg for back and shoulder pain, according to police.
Smithers was also taken to Claxton-Hepburn for evaluation only, police said.
Smithers was ticketed for following too closely, police said.
