BOMBAY — Four Amish people were injured Tuesday morning when the buggy they were riding in was struck by a motor vehicle on Bombay-Helena Road.

It is the second crash in the past week involving an Amish family in this same area.

A 6-year-old boy was struck and killed Aug. 30 on the St. Lawrence County side of the same highway when he reportedly ran into the road in front of a passing motorist.

Tony LeDuc, chief of the Bombay Volunteer Fire Department, said Tuesday's wreck occurred about 2 miles off Route 95 and that his agency received mutual-aid ambulances from the Moira Fire Department and Tri-Town Rescue Squad.

All four victims were taken to Massena Memorial Hospital "with non-life threatening injuries," LeDuc said.

The road was closed for several hours as the investigation took place, and volunteers from the Helena Fire Department and Franklin County Fire Police rerouted traffic and diverted drivers from the scene.

LeDuc said the horse pulling the buggy was not hurt, but it had fled the scene following the crash.

No further details were available at press time Tuesday.
