CHAMPLAIN — A Canadian man was arrested for possession of counterfeit money Sunday.
Rejean Brousseau, 47, a truck driver from Carignan, Quebec, tried to use eight $100 counterfeit bills to pay for $700 worth of diesel fuel at a truck stop in Champlain at about 11:45 a.m., Chazy-based State Police said.
The cashier realized the bills were counterfeit and called the police.
Brousseau was arrested at 2:07 p.m. and was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, a Class C felony.
He was arraigned at Town of Champlain Court before Judge Favro.
Brousseau posted bail, which was $3,000 cash.
Police could not speak about whether the origin of the counterfeit money had been determined.
The investigation is ongoing.
