Arcarese: 50 years

Lawrence (Larry) and Stasia (Ostrowski) Arcarese of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Plattsburgh, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, December 28, 2012, with a dinner organized by their three daughters and attended by friends and former colleagues.

They were married on December 29, 1962 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic church in the bride's hometown of Sayville, Long Island, New York. The wedding was officiated by parish priest, Father Joseph O'Brien.

Mr. Arcarese earned his Bachelors degree at SUNY Brockport, and his Masters at SUNY Plattsburgh. He joined the faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh in September of 1958 and retired in May 1995 as Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Communication.

Mr. Arcarese was a member and Past-President of the Plattsburgh Lions Club and, from 1988, a member of the Plattsburgh Rotary Club. He is now a member of the Fort Myers South Rotary Club. He is also a charter member and Past-President of the Clinton County Chapter of the National Professional Education Organization, Phi Delta Kappa, and a life member of the Plattsburgh Elks lodge.

Mrs. Arcarese earned her Bachelors degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, and her Masters from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She was a Professor in the Department of Nursing at Clinton Community College for 20 years, where she was awarded the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching. She retired in 2000. She has been active in civic affairs for many years, having served as President of the League of Women Voters in both Clinton County, New York, and Lee County, Florida.

The couple has three children, Josephine of Vermont, Stasia and her husband Jim of North Carolina, and Tina of Florida. They have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

After spending many winters in Florida as part-time snowbirds, the Arcareses moved to Florida permanently in October of 2011. They left Plattsburgh with many cherished memories of their years in the North Country community they called home for over 50 years.
