Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

O'Meara: 50 years

PLATTSBURGH — Thomas and Constance O'Meara celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Butcher Block with family.

Thomas O'Meara and Constance Lester were married on March 18, 1961, with a reception hosted by Jane Lanigan (Tom's first cousin) and her husband David, who has since died. Jane toasted the occasion of their anniversary.

Tom was employed at the Dannemora Correctional Facility, serving as a correction officer for 32 years. After his retirement from the New York Department of Corrections, Tom kept himself busy for many years working different part-time jobs including bus-driving for the Plattsburgh School System where he enjoyed his interaction with the children. Connie worked at the New York Telephone Company and quickly switched to the banking business. She worked as the head teller and a loan officer of the State Bank of Albany (eventually became Fleet Bank and Glens Fall Bank) for more than 30 years and then worked part-time for the Clinton County Center for Independence. It seems neither one wanted to fully retire right away.

Tom and Connie have two children: Michael and his wife, Teri, of Plattsburgh; and Kathleen and her husband, Kevin Clancy, of Gloucester, Mass. They have five grandchildren: Nicholas, Daniel, Holly and Timothy O'Meara and Neville Clancy.
