LaBarre: 40 Years


ELLENBURG CENTER ­— In April, Gerard and Leta LaBarre celebrated their 40th anniversary of Aug. 16, 2009, with their family on a trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Gerard LaBarre and Leta Lashway were married Aug. 16, 1969, in St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg.

Gerard graduated from Ellenburg Central School in 1968. He is now retired after 40 years in the workforce. He began his career working at the family business, Bruce's Blacktopping, and spent the remainder of his career working as a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight and Alliant Food Service.

Leta graduated from Ellenburg Central School in 1969. She stayed at home to raise her four children before going to work as a teacher's aide at Northern Adirondack Central School in 1987.

The LaBarres have four children: Jerry and Sherri Kowalowski; Treavor and Vicki Dauphinais; Jamie LaBarre and her boyfriend, Chris Maggy; and Jonathan and Mindy LaBarre. They have two grandsons: Keller and Kaden Kowalowski, and one granddaughter, Ava Dauphinais.

Gerard's hobbies are hunting with his son and family members, taking his grandchildren 4-wheeling and researching on his computer.

Leta's main hobbies are flower and vegetable gardening and cooking treats for her grandchildren.

The couple enjoy taking vacations, cruises and long walks together. They also like watching their grandchildren play sports and following the Miners' baseball team. They especially enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
