Plattsburgh City Beach closed for weekend

PLATTSBURGH — Unsafe bacteria levels have been discovered at the Plattsburgh City Beach, forcing a precautionary closure Saturday afternoon.

City of Plattsburgh Recreation Director Steve Peters announced the closure Saturday, advising that the beach will remain closed through at least Monday while more tests are conducted.

The tests, which discovered the presence of unsafe levels of an undisclosed type of bacteria, were directed by the Clinton County Health Department. The Health department requires testing of the City Beach waters after heavy rainfalls. The storms that deluged parts of Clinton and Essex counties Thursday night dumped enough rain in the county to trigger the tests.

The Cumberland Bay State Park beach adjacent to the City Beach is remaining open. A representative for the beach said that they test water samples weekly, and their most recent test results were negative. They plan to conduct tests again Tuesday.
