One injured in Plattsburgh house fire

PLATTSBURGH — One person was seriously injured in an early-morning fire in Plattsburgh Sunday.

Tanya LaFountain, a resident of 4947 South Catherine St., suffered severe injuries as a result of the fire at her home.

According to Plattsburgh City Police Chief Desmond Racicot, who also serves as acting fire chief, LaFountain endured second- and third-degree burns and smoke inhalation from the blaze. Her age was not available.

She was transported to CVPH Medical Center, then transferred to Fletcher Allen Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Sunday evening.

The Plattsburgh City Fire Department responded to a report of fire at the single-family home, belonging to the LaFountain family, at 1:40 a.m., Racicot said.

The blaze, according to Racicot, caused extensive smoke and fire damage to the first floor of the home, rendering the building unoccupiable.

The Red Cross is providing immediate lodging to one resident of the home and will offer assistance to two other residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
