Plattsburgh State College Council to meet

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State's College Council will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.

The meeting itself will feature a presentation on "Civility in the Workplace" by Bethanne DelGaudio, a member of the campus committee that has been working on that issue and director of certification and graduate advising for the college's teacher education unit.

In addition to committee reports, the council will hear about the status of the college's operating budget, Middle States Accreditation and enrollment management. Members will also consider a commendation honoring Cerise Oberman, former dean of library and information services, for her service to the college.

The meeting is open to the public.

Annual tax-exemption deadline approaching

ALBANY — The property-tax exemption's application deadline is March 1.

All New York state exemption renewals and new applications must be filed with municipality assessors by that date.

Exemptions that may require a renewal application every year include senior citizen 50 percent (65 years old or older), nonprofit, limited income and disability and agricultural land.

Enhanced STAR (65 or older) may require a renewal if owners do not file an income-tax return and are not signed up with the Income Verification Program.

Basic Star, veterans and some other exemptions do not require a yearly renewal once applied for, unless there's a change.
