MOOERS — Jessica Martin and Todd Dansereau love each other so much they want to scream it from the top of the highest mountain.
Well, sort of.
Star 92.9 recently announced that the Mooers couple had won the radio station's latest contest — an all-expense paid wedding to be broadcast on the "Live With Tara Show" — which means the ceremony will be transmitted from a radio tower located high atop Vermont's tallest geographic feature, Mt. Mansfield.
On Valentine's Day, the radio station in Colchester, Vt., will be transformed into a wedding chapel, where Martin and Dansereau will be wed. They went up against five other couples and were declared the winners after they received the most online votes.
The win is just one more thing that has fallen into place for the couple.
Martin said that even though they went to high school together, they didn't travel in the same circles. That didn't matter, though, because more than 10 years after graduating, the pair reconnected on Facebook.
"We just got along so well," Martin said. "He's very easy-going."
It wasn't long before Martin and Dansereau began chatting in person, and soon after that they became engaged. That was two years ago.
"He had a picture of the ring, and he sent it to me via a text message," Martin said. "And then he called and asked me to marry him."
Jennifer Foxx, program director for Star 92.9, said she knew as soon as she saw the couple's profile that they were happy they had found each other.
"I'm really happy they won," Foxx said. "For them, it wasn't about money or anything. It is clear they are just really in love."
Foxx said the contest started last year when the station's staff was brainstorming ideas for Valentine's Day.
"We were trying to come up with something fun and different, and then we decided to try to marry someone on the air," Foxx said.
"It was a huge success. People loved it."
This year, the station picked five finalists from the batch of about 60 that came in. Trying to choose the couples who offered the most variety was top priority, but there was something about Dansereau's submission that stood out.
"They were the only couple that was entered by a man," Foxx said. "It was short, simple and sweet. He wrote, 'I love her.'"
The voting lasted a week, with the winners announced Jan. 30.
The victory includes all of the ingredients for a wedding, provided by local sponsors, including the tuxedo and gown, a surprise cake based on the couple's favorite flavors, a reception and a honeymoon at the Stoweflake in Stowe, Vt.
Martin said she was ecstatic that they won and that it has been a dream come true to have her wedding planned so efficiently. She added that she and her soon-to-be husband would have tied the knot even if they had lost.
"When you find the right one, you just know," Martin said.
