Scratch-off game yields big wins
ST. REGIS FALLS — Carol Parker of St. Regis Falls won $25,000 playing New York Lottery's Cash X10 scratch-off game.
She bought her winning ticket at the The Ole Barn in Inlet.
Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education, according to a press release. It takes into account both a school district's size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of lottery school funding.

SLCS clothing swap to be repeated in spring
SARANAC LAKE — The Stop, Drop and Swap project at Saranac Lake High School was a huge success, organizers say.
The collaborative effort between Trish Preston's wellness classes and Amanda Zullo's Student Council organization brought in donations of gently used clothing over the course of three days in December 2011.
On the day of the swap, each student was given a grocery bag donated by Grand Union and was invited to choose from the items arranged by size in the gym to fill it up.
"The majority of clothing was picked up, and the extra items were donated to Family Champions," a press release said. "Students were excited to 'give clothing to others' and 'get new clothing' in return."
Hot chocolate and cookies were served.
The school will repeat the event before spring break and then during the holiday season at the end of the year.
