PLATTSBURGH — An inmate at Clinton County Jail is charged with assault after allegedly biting an officer.

Deputies arrested Malcolm White, 24, of Brooklyn at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, after he assaulted a correction officer, the Sheriff's Department said Thursday.

The officer was taken to CVPH Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

White was charged with one felony count of second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury to another person.

Officials said the incident occurred when the inmate was being transported internally from the pod where he was being held.

White was being held at the jail without bail on charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly trafficking heroin and crack cocaine between New York City and the North Country.

He was arrested Jan. 29 following a search of a Lyon Mountain home after a six-month investigation into the alleged pipeline.

White is set to re-appear in Plattsburgh Town Court this afternoon to face the assault allegations.
