Appointment announced

PLATTSBURGH — Adirondack Audiology Associates is welcoming Dr. Erin Laundrie to their health-care practice team in the Plattsburgh office.

Laundrie will provide adult hearing and balance evaluations and amplification fittings as well as assist in pediatric audiology care. Licensed to practice audiology in the state of New York, she is a member of the American Academy of Audiology.

Laundrie completed her training and received her doctorate in audiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. While working toward her degree, she focused her research on auditory cortex enhancement and tinnitus. Also included while acquiring her doctorate was an externship at Audiology Service Associates, where she was made part of the team post-graduation, conducting audiologic, immittance and reflex testing.

Adirondack Audiology Associates is a private healthcare practice established by Dr. Keith Walsh in 1987 to serve people who are experiencing hearing or balance issues. The practice offers state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, hearing technologies and balance rehabilitation from four locations in upstate New York and one in Burlington, Vt.

Business recognized

LAKE PLACID — Engel & Völkers has recognized its Lake Placid shop for attaining its highest sales volume in one calendar year, having achieved $20 million in real-estate sales for 2011.

In business for more than 30 years, Lake Placid Real Estate is led by managing partners Phil Thayer and Colleen Holmes, who attribute the shop's achievement to its valuable client relationships and talented group of real-estate advisers combined with the powerful resources provided by the Engel & Völkers network.

"We are truly proud of our team, whose dedication, commitment to service and long standing relationships with their clients pushed us to our highest year ever," Holmes said.

Chamber alliance

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Chamber of Commerce is reminding businesses, non-profits and local governments throughout the region of the potential cost savings available by using the North Country Energy Alliance.

The alliance is a free buyers' cooperative through the chamber that obtains lower electric rates for participants by aggregating the demand of hundreds of customers and requiring competitive bids by major producers. The buying power is further expanded by linking the chamber's group to dozens of other chamber groups across upstate New York.

"There is no gimmick and no cost, and no linkage to any specific provider," said Garry Douglas, chamber president. "We employ a team of consultants who act as our buyer/brokers, going out to bid at least every two years while allowing newcomers to sign up at any point along the way."

Savings can range from modest to thousands of dollars, depending on usage and the current provider.

Any business, non-profit or local government in NYSEG or National Grid territory who is not already in the program should check it out, Douglas said.

"We cannot serve customers in municipal electric communities. We just need account information so we can estimate what the savings would be, and only then does a customer need to decide to sign up."

The service is available to all chamber members and its partner chambers including ROOST, Saranac Lake Area, Tupper Lake, Malone, Ticonderoga Area, Schroon Lake, Indian Lake, Adirondacks Speculator Region, Gore Mountain Region, North Warren, Stony Creek and the Whiteface Region Business and Tourism Center.

Non-members are invited to obtain a savings estimate and can then decide to join in order to sign up for the program.
