Need continues for Salvation Army

— Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign raised some funds; more always welcome

PLATTSBURGH — Though the Salvation Army's bell-ringing and Red Kettle campaign ended on Christmas Eve, community need continues.

"Many of those in our communities — our friends, neighbors, relatives — never thought that they would need the assistance of the Salvation Army. But these are not typical times," said Envoy Frank Smith of the Plattsburgh church. "In times like these, the need is increasing — to provide warm, nutritious meals through our Community Care Soup Kitchen, food boxes through our Food Shelf, warm clothing and compassion."

The Red Kettle donations are used throughout the year to help provide such vital services, he said in a press release. But further assistance is needed.

"The Salvation Army is so grateful for all of the generous donations that have been made to our Red Kettle Campaign this year, and we encourage all who didn't have a chance to donate prior to Christmas will donate," Smith said.

"We very much appreciate the volunteer hours and funds given thus far by the community schools, stores, fire departments, businesses, church groups, organizations and individuals."

To contribute, mail a check to: the Salvation Army, 4804 South Catherine St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
