ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will meet at 7 tonight in the conference room.

Agenda items include substitute appointments, an adult-education agreement and policy readings.

The meeting is open to all.

Conferences on Common Council agenda

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will review several travel requests at tonight's meeting.

Among them are a request to send one police officer to the National District Attorneys Drug Seminar and Conference from Sept. 11 to 16 in Las Vegas. All expenses for the trip will be paid for by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

There is also a request for two officers to attend the Advanced Crash Management Course from Sept. 12 to 17 in Hudson. The cost will not exceed $1,227.95 and will be paid for out of the Asset Forfeiture Fund.

The final travel request is for Building Inspector Richard Perry and Municipal Code Inspector Claude Bouchard to attend the New York State Building Code Officials conference from Oct. 18 to 20 in Albany for mandatory training hours to retain code-enforcement certification.

The cost of the trip is not to exceed $1,036.

The council will also consider a request from Chris Dumont of the Green Room to host an outside music festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, on Upper Bridge Street.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m., both open to the public.

Jaquish now permanent in county post

ELIZABETHTOWN — Donald Jaquish of Moriah is now the permanent director of Essex County Emergency Services.

The Essex County Board of Supervisors unanimously gave him the nod Tuesday in a final vote.

He had been acting director for two years, following the retirement of Raymond Thatcher, while a new Civil Service test for the position was awaited.

But County Personnel Officer Monica Feeley told supervisors no test was scheduled and Jaquish had passed a similar exam in the past.

She said the permanent appointment was allowed under State Civil Service Law.
