Ron Wilson of Port Kent was awarded a certificate of recognition by the New York State Retired Teachers' Association. The certificate is the highest award given for extraordinary service at all levels of the association in addition to community service.
Wilson served for three years as president of NYSRTA. He also served as president of the northeastern zone and is currently their budget chairman. He is a retired Peru Central School administrator and serves on the board of the Adirondack District Boy Scouts of America.
A special award was presented to Glenn Clark for outstanding military service during World War II. He was recently named a Chevalier of the Legion of Merit of France, the highest award given by France.
David Graham, Clinton County adjunct instructor, co-presented at the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers conference recently. Presentations were geared toward how language teachers can use material from the Quebec Music Awards to teach, and selected audio, video and YouTube versions of Quebec music. The conference, attended by more than 300 teachers, was offered both in French and English.
Sylvie Nelson, executive director of the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to a one-year term to serve on the board of directors of the Chamber Alliance of New York State.
CANYS is a statewide alliance of chambers in the state. Its members represent every region of New York state and provide a networking and grassroots business perspective on legislature and issues facing businesses in the state.
James S. Bonner, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been named the first fellow of Clarkson University's Shipley Center for Innovation. He is the son of Philip and Lu Bonner of Peru, a graduate of Peru Central High School and SUNY Plattsburgh.
Clarkson Provost Thomas C. Young said the Shipley fellow defines the highest level of the scholar-entrepreneur, one who strives to create wealth and employment opportunities through commercial enterprise that involves the fellow's own intellectual endeavors. Bonner will directly support the mission of the Shipley Center, which includes catalyzing economic development through innovations developed by Clarkson faculty, students and staff.
